This project was made in commission by the Northern Netherlands Police department for the Digital Product Lab Minor. The goal was to build an application to aid crime investigators in acquiring digital evidence at crime scenes. My role was to analyze the officers' current investigation app, and improve on the flaws of the previous system. I did that by having interviews with the officers who were using the old investigation app, to figure out our target audience's needs and requirements for the app usage and navigation. These findings would then be discussed with the UI designer to make the finalized look of the app. The specifics of the workings of the application cannot be disclosed due to a clause in our Non Disclosure Agreement.
Genre: Serious application Description: Application build for the Northern Netherlands Police, to aid them in finding digital evidence at crime scenes. Tools used: Adobe Creative Cloud Suite of Apps / Google Docs Editor Suite of Apps / Trello Team size: 4 Development time: 20 weeks Intended Platform(s): Mobile (iOS/Android), PC
Role(s) and responsibilities Business & Marketing:
As part of our Minor, I also developed a pitch for a Home Protection app utilizing the same technology as our Police app.
For this pitch I analyzed the current Home Protection market to find a niche our product could fill, and then created a development, marketing and distribution plan.
With this figured out I also looked for potential companies that we could partner up with to fill in roles that we as a group could not fulfill (hardware parts, distribution channels).
Product Owner (Design)
Organized weekly appointments with our client and stakeholders, to figure out the desired needs and requirements for the app.
Based on these requirements, I formulated User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX) goals for the app and communicated these to the other designer on the team.
UI Design
Created the styleguide for the application. Biggest considerations were: keeping the amount of steps needed to get to key information to a minimum, order the buttons in a logical manner from start to final result, utilizing the color scheme of the Northern Netherlands Police Department.
Overall goal was to create a clean, easy to navigate application that can be used with minimal technical knowledge.
UX Design:
Created storyboards to figure out the day to day operations of a digital crime scene investigator. These storyboards were based on conversations with stakeholders.
Organized and carried out QA sessions with the client and stakeholders to make sure the application falls in line with their expectations and wishes.
